The children of Springfield's Eureka District attended school in this tiny building, built in 1790, for more than 100 years. It is one of the oldest public structures in Vermont. The schoolhouse is home to an exhibit depicting life in a one-room schoolhouse, including books and materials used by local school children. The Baltimore Covered Bridge is a Town Lattice Truss Bridge with arched portals. It is 37 feet long and was built in 1870 in North Springfield, moved in 1970 to its current site near the schoolhouse and picnic area.

The Fort at No. 4 is a living history museum devoted to the French & Indian War (1754-1763). It's on the NH side of the Connecticut River just minutes from Springfield. It features historic reenactments (complete with cannon fire), a large stockaded fort complex, traditional crafting and ways of life, and a number of historic artifacts. It forms the eastern terminus of the Crown Point Road that runs 77 miles west to Chimney Point, on the shore of Lake Champlain south of Fort Ticonderoga. With a broad expanse of lawn extending down to the river, it's a great place for a picnic with the kids, especially on reenactment weekends. And for the history buff looking to broaden their insight beyond the American Revolution and the Civil War, the Fort at No. 4 offers a unique opportunity to step just a little farther back in time.

3,144-foot high Mount Ascutney is just to the north of Springfield. Mount Ascutney State Park was built between 1935 and 1938 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Today, the park offers camping, four trailheads and more than 12 miles of hiking trails. Visitors seeking a less-strenuous trek may drive up the 3.7-mile Mount Ascutney Parkway to a parking lot at an elevation of 2,800 feet. A hike of nearly one mile leads to the summit observation tower. Each summer hundreds of participants from all over New England compete in automobile, bicycle and running races up the auto road. With its two launching sites, the park is also a favorite of hang gliders.

Muckross State Park preserves the estate of the late Senator Edgar May and former Governor Madeleine May Kunin. The park features rustic cottages, a pond, a dramatic waterfall, and miles of hiking trails. As a recent addition to the state park system, Muckross is still very much in development and doesn't presently have any formal parking or public facilities available. It's only accessible on foot, on the dirt road immediately on the left across the Paddock Road bridge. Look for the info kiosk at the gated entrance. Work is ongoing to bring Muckross back to its former glory and make it a recreation destination for all who live in or visit Springfield.
There is a small parking area (6 vehicles) just inside the park entrance at 26 Muckross Road. The park is also accessible by foot or bike on the Toonerville Rail Trail which has parking areas on Clinton Street, on Charlestown Road near Hoyt's Landing, and at the Exit 7 Park and Ride. Vermont has many fine resorts, but Okemo is simply outstanding. It's big enough to offer terrain & conditions that will satisfy skiers & boarders at any level. There's an elegant base lodge at Jackson Gore; a more rustic base at Bull Run; a six-pack heated quad that goes to the summit; magic carpets for beginners. There's a pool & fitness center, an ice rink, snow tubing, the four-season mountain coaster, summer music festivals & fireworks, golf, mountain biking...
Okemo is the perfect family resort--in fact many locals who ski & ride benefited from Okemo's partnership with area schools. And it's priced reasonably enough to allow you to buy a second round or a fancy dessert. Ludlow is about 30 minutes from Springfield, on Route 103. Take River Street west which becomes Route 10, then turn right onto Route 103 in Gassetts.
If you're looking for the alpine downhill experience and don't need to stay slope-side, Springfield will be happy to serve as your home base for adventure. Years ago, Springfield had some modest ski runs (including jumps) on the ridges around town. Hartness Park (up above Summer Street) is still good for Nordic touring & mountain biking, as are the trails on the east side of the Black River in North Springfield & Weathersfield off Reservoir Road.

Built in 1811 by Scottish minister Robinson Smiley and his wife, Elizabeth, the Smiley Manse has been host (and home) to a grand variety of artistic endeavors and creative characters. From the addition of a specially designed music room in 1929 to frequent visits from artistic luminaries, the Manse has been an inspiration to many.
It only makes sense that Jennifer and Nate purchased the home in 2022 to continue this rich tradition by offering retreats for artists around the world.

The Springfield Community Players can trace their roots back to the fall of 1920, with the formation of the Dramatic Society by the Community Club of Springfield. The purpose of the club was to “create and sustain interest in all matters pertaining to the drama.” It was an exciting time for theater. Throughout Vermont and in fact the entire country, community theater groups were being organized. Nearly one hundred years later the Players are still active, claiming the title of the longest continuously operating amateur theater group in the State of Vermont.

Our campground is quiet and peaceful, yet only minutes away from the convenience of downtown Springfield's stores and restaurants. Our individual campsites are spacious, private, and are surrounded by many white pine trees, most are over 120 feet tall! We have a beautiful log cabin lodge community space with free hot showers and the cleanest restrooms in the business. We welcome both tents and recreational vehicles to our campground. Our RV sites have full hookups: water, electric, limited wifi and septic. Our sites can accommodate most size rigs from small pop-up trailers to 35 ft motor-homes.

We enjoy smoking ribs, pulled pork and more. Having our own trailer and making our food available to everyone really is a dream. Our food is homemade in our mobile kitchen from our own rubs, bbq sauce and baked beans/coleslaw. This is food that I would feed my family and do.

Founded 50 years ago, VAST is responsible for the organization of the sport of snowmobiling, maintaining and grooming over 5,000 miles of trails. One of the oldest snowmobiling organizations in the U.S., VAST is a non-profit, private group that includes 128 clubs statewide, with over 24,000 members combined. The clubs and their steadfast volunteers, and the landowners that allow riders to cross their land are the backbone of the organization.

Vermont Wagyu produces some of the best beef in the world by pushing the boundary on taste through restorative agricultural management, low-stress handling practices, and data-focused breeding of Wagyu (Japanese Black Cattle). We are leaders in the mapping of historic Wagyu lineages in the U.S. and in Australia to better understand the pedigrees of our dams and sires and their genetic influence on marbling. We began this story in 2008 with 20 Wagyu calves and Spring-Rock farm. Our farm, in the hills of Vermont overlooking the Connecticut River, New Hampshire, and beyond, is a special place. We think of it as a member of our family, a unique part of our story.
