To the right is a photograph of Vermont Governor and Springfield resident James Hartness welcoming Charles Lindbergh to Springfield when the famed aviator landed the Spirit of St. Louis here on July 26, 1927. A crowd estimated at 30,000 turned out for the occasion. Lindbergh stayed overnight at the Hartness House as a guest of the governor.
The Airport Commission assists in the administration of Hartness State Airport.
