Transition to Trash-by-Weight at Springfield Transfer Station - January 3, 2022

The Springfield Transfer Station returned to the weight standard in response to sustained public concern that measurement using calibrated scales is more fair & transparent than estimation of volume and will increase user incentives to recycle. The Town purchased four new scales to replace the two less reliable scales formerly used.

The punch cards and legacy green tickets will be honored as follows:

SPRINGFIELD TRANSFER STATION
PUNCH CARD/TICKET CONVERSION
ONE PUNCH (weight card) = 5 lbs. of trash or fraction thereof
ONE PUNCH (volume card) = 8 lbs. of trash or fraction thereof
ONE GREEN TICKET = 5 lbs. of trash or fraction thereof
ONE UNUSED VOLUME CARD is exchangeable for 2 WEIGHT CARDS.

PUNCH CARDS ($8.50 each) & ACCESS STICKERS ($30 for one/$40 for two):

Transfer Station annual access stickers (July-June) and punch cards are available for purchase in-person at the Springfield and Chester town offices, through the mail, or by dropping off a check/money order for the appropriate amount with a self-addressed stamped envelope through the mail slots at the first floor or second floor doors at Town Hall (96 Main Street, Springfield, VT 05156).
